Battles against Hydro-Quebec, words of a warrior, Shanet Pilot, UashatMak Mani-Utenam

Faced with the devastation of land, this history is told by two accounts of resistance. Shanet (Jeannette) Pilot, like many others, is fighting against Hydro-Quebec, denouncing this state enterprise as a colonial accomplice. The opposition to agreements linked to the construction of the Sainte-Marguerite-3 hydro-electric complex, which has devastated the Nitassinan (an ancestral Innu territory), and to the construction of the la Romaine hydro-electric complex, which has been twice refused by referendum by the Uashatmak Mani-Utenam Innu community; she continues the fight. For over a year, she hasn’t been paying Hydro-Quebecin order to oppose this state company which has pillaged and continues to pillage the land. Despite the powers that try to keep her quiet, she continues her fight – affirming that the whole system must fall in order to start anew. This revival must permit members of the Innu nation to choose what is best for themselves.
